Back from Vermont

|
We had such a great weekend at Katie & Doug's house in Vermont with my mom and dad, and Taryn and Jeff. We're pretty sad to go back to reality tomorrow but here are a few pics i took on my iphone over the weekend.
We drove through a storm to get there on Friday afternoon and here's the view from The Ledges:

We tried out some snowshoeing...

Then we made this little guy to greet everyone coming back from skiing. :)

This was my absolute favorite part of the long weekend. I love this big stone fireplace!

Thanks to the Neuman's for letting us stay at their house.

Snowy house

|
These are from the Nor'easter back in December (I think). We might get another this weekend but they're saying only 6 inches. We're headed to Manasquan for the weekend on Friday so I hope we're not driving through any bad weather. Did the groundhog really say 6 more weeks?? :)

Moose likes the new rug.

Don't worry, we have taken our tree down. I admit I miss having it up!

Dad and Mom are here!...Back to work on the house!

|
Well, time has flown by since we first started working on the house back in July. Now that the holidays have come and gone and we're settling into the end of winter, it was about time we got back to work! We were lucky my parents could come up to Providence to help us tackle some projects that have been on our To Do list. Here are a few pictures of some of our projects (in no particular order)...

Some of you may remember our front porch floor - lovely, isn't it? Well, it was a great floor for working on some of our messier projects, like scraping and repainting the radiators. But it was looking pretty tired, so we laid down some luan flooring as the first step towards freshening up the porch.

Here is a side by side comparison: luan on left, and old floor with spray paint stains on the right.

Here's Ben laying down the first piece...

The right side of the porch is almost done!

The plan is to either paint a design on the luan as a short-term plan. But we plan to lay a Bamboo floor down on top of the luan sooner than later.

Next project - cutting and laying the quarter-round trim around the baseboards of the downstairs.

Here's Dad cutting the trim down to size.

And here's some of the final product!

Moving on, here is the beautiful new pantry that Ben and my dad built. I'll take credit only for painting the shelves. I can't wait to use this space, especially since I can't reach half of the things I store in our cabinets because they are so high!

We finally patched up the hole in the wall in our stairway. We still need to sand and paint it to finish it up...
My project for the weekend was this upholstered headboard. I had lots of inspiration from some fabulous blogs, such as Freckles Chick's Headboard, Design-Aholic's Afternoon Headboard, & Chopstick and Pearl's Headboard. Here's the final product:

And here's an up close view of the nailhead trim:

Not too bad for about $100 and about 3 hours of work! Of course my dad cut all the wood and engineered the installation by bolting the legs of the headboard to the bedframe. I wrapped a piece of plyboard twice with batting, followed by my fabric from Joann's, and stapled-gunned it in place. Then I used nailhead trim for the detail (no, I did not nail each individual nail, just every 5th nail!). And that was about it!
This was my inspiration headboard: Check out the price! Wowza!

Williams Sonoma Home: Gramercy HeadboardPrice Tag: $1,250 - $2,650

Ben and my dad tackled quite a few more projects this weekend, which I didn't get to capture with photos. They are amazing! Whenever I get to watch my dad build things, I am just amazed at his talent and skill when working with his hands. I hope to think that maybe I have received just an ounce of that ability in my genetic make-up. And my mom gave moral support and kept the hungry workers well-fed :) Well, I am completely exhausted after a hard-working weekend but it feels great to have accomplished so much. Wishing safe travels to my parents who are on their way home as I type. Thanks for reading!

Love,
Kim
